On the edge of Newport Beach sits Corona del Mar, a jewel of a village. And there sits 5 Crowns Corona del Mar, a wonderful jewel in the crown.

... and in a setting that sparkles. This Corona del Mar restaurant is really several separate restaurants.
MAIN DINING AREA. This restaurant section features rich, dark woods and a fireplace. If you are looking for a romantic evening, ask for one of the tables in a hidden corner. There are several solitary tables behind cabinets and bookcases that are genuinely romantic.
GARDEN AREA. (see photo above) Light splashes in from all sides, with emerald ferns hanging from above. On a sunny Sunday morning, this is a lovely spot for brunch. And for weddings ... so special.
THE TAVERN. The Side Door is an olde English pub and sandwich shop. Even a manager at another restaurant told us how fresh and delicious these sandwiches are!
UPSTAIRS. Here are the private rooms for parties from 20 to 200 people.
Prime Rib is King at 5 Crowns, now one of our favorite Newport Beach restaurants. We ordered it, not truly knowing what to expect. Oh my. Hint: unless you have a humungous appetite, order the smaller cut. The prime rib was cooked to perfection. And the sauces! and the horseradish! and the side dishes! No proper lady would have eaten as much as I did.
5 Crowns Corona del Mar is part of the Lawry's restaurant chain, but the Newport Beach restaurant location is unique unto itself. Do make reservations. It was booked solid the morning we were there.
Parking is by valet, right across the street. Easy peasy.
Our only regret is that lunch is not served. Dinner and Sunday brunch only. But it is worth waiting for.
