Davenport, A Romantic California Weekend Getaway

Seashore at Davenport, California

Davenport beaches were once known more for clothing optional than for traditional sunbathing.

The secret hideaways in the cliffs hugging the beach still provide lots of privacy, and lots of opportunities for exploring.

Tide pools at sunset in Davenport, California

The tide pools scattered all over Davenport's beaches create a truly magical atmosphere in the evening as the sun sets, just perfect for a romantic stroll.

There are some truly spectacular sunsets along this stretch of the Pacific coast too.

Bed and breakfast inn in Davenport, California

A town as delightful as Davenport, California, needs a bed and breakfast that is simply exquisite.  Here it is: The Sandrock Farm Bed and Breakfast.  What a cozy spot to come back to after your evening stroll on the beach!

Railroad station in Davenport, California

Isn't this a charming little railroad station?  It is certainly a far cry from the weathered old stations that one expects to see along the line.  This is the Swanton Pacific Railroad Station in Davenport, California.

From David:  Just north of Santa Cruz on the Pacific Coast Highway is Davenport, home to potters, glassblowers, and other crafts people. Close to the deep blue ocean and backed by the redwood forests, it is just the right place to snuggle into.

Note from Kingsley:
Ohmygoodness. The last time I was in Davenport was about 15 years ago. At that time the most famous thing about the area was the clothing optional beach. But with Santa Cruz bursting at the seams with artists and cute b&bs and charming shops, etc., I suppose it was inevitable that Davenport would benefit. The University of California at Santa Cruz has also spawned a burgeoning population of artists and philosophers.

We will definitely be visiting that area. I lived there for about 10 years, and just loved it. You are right -- the whole area is just snuggle perfect. And when we go, we will be sure to take a peek at Davenport, too!

Thanks ever so,
Kingsley
