Fishing Around Idyllwild

Question: Did you happen to go fishing around Idyllwild? maybe at one of the lakes or rivers? If so, how was it? Were they biting? And what time of year was it? I would love to find a nice spot where Danny, my hubby, can go fishing while I while away some time reading. We are in Los Angeles, so Idyllwild wouldn't be too far far away.

Cyndi, you'll be glad to know that there is some great fishing in and around Idyllwild.

Lake Hemet, about 9 miles South of the Inn, is the largest lake in the San Jacinto Mountains. It is stocked throughout most of the year with rainbow trout by the State Department of Fish and Game. Natural channel catfish, big-mouth bass and bluegill also provide good sport fishing. It is a very large, scenic lake with two public recreation areas on its shores. Lake Hemet Market carries equipment, bait, and licenses for fishing throughout our area.

Lake Fulmor, about 10 miles North of Idyllwild, is stocked with trout by the Department of Fish and Game from spring through summer. It is a serene, 2-acre lake that is quite a bit more intimate and serene than Lake Hemet.

Strawberry Creek, which runs along the back of the Strawberry Creek Inn, also offers limited fishing opportunities. In fact it is the only stream where fishing is allowed in the San Jacinto mountains. You can walk from the Strawberry Creek Inn up and down the creek in search of the best spot for fishing.

I hope that answers your questions. For up-to-date fishing reports I would suggest typing any of the three bodies of water, plus 'fishing report' into your search engine and looking for recent posts. Many fishing enthusiasts keep blogs where they report on their luck at specific lakes/streams, and some collect reports from lots of other fishing enthusiasts and aggregate them.
