I found it! I found it! La Jolla restaurants sometimes come and go, and I was afraid this one had gone. But there it was. One of my favorite breakfast spots of all time: The Cottage Restaurant.
I first went to The Cottage restaurant in La Jolla when I lived there, and I always took out of town guests there, usually for breakfast. It is an unpretentious place, with tables scattered under trees on the large patio area, and a calm grey and white interior. At night little twinkling lights decorate the trees. Others have really enjoyed it too. Discover what others have said about this charming restaurant.

The crowd is quite real. This is a favorite La Jolla spot. Tourists don't seem to have discovered it yet, but locals really have. And for good reason: the food is simply delicious. On Sundays the line reaches around the block for Sunday brunch, so get there early. Actually, it is busy most days.
Most restaurants do a decent dinner, and most can do a pretty good lunch. But breakfast is a challenge, even for La Jolla restaurants. Creating a breakfast that is wholesome and tasty is truly out of reach for most chefs. But not for those at The Cottage.

On the left is one of the oh so tasty breakfast creations, and on the right is a dinner salad presentation.
John and Laura, the new owners, have really done an amazing job of retaining everything that made The Cottage so special, and adding even more.
There really is something very romantic about sitting under the trees, sipping coffee or wine, with twinkling lights all around, and a most remarkable meal in front of you.
The Cottage is off the beaten path for tourists. If you are staying at La Valencia Hotel or the Bed and Breakfast Inn at La Jolla, it is only a short walk. Ask your concierge to point you to Fay Avenue, and walk down to 7702 Fay Avenue. You will be glad that you did.
