Well, it took Kingsley no time at all to make friends at the Rusty Pelican Newport Beach.  He and the big bird got along just fine.

A Newport Beach vacation is hardly complete without a stroll to a seafood restaurant, and this one has been serving meals to visitors and locals alike for decades.

The Rusty Pelican was once a group of restaurants throughout California.  This is the flagship, and it remains in Newport Beach, where it began.  it is settled comfortably right on Newport harbor, one of the very few Newport Beach restaurants so situated.

Upstairs is where you find the bar, a cozy fireplace nook for a late cocktail, and a panoramic view of Newport Harbor:

The downstairs area brings you right up close to the parade of boats passing by, especially if you sit on the sunny patio. Or choose the very romantic fireplace corner for dining.

All areas -- upstairs and down -- serve super fish dishes that they have perfected over a long while.  We especially enjoyed seeing the trout dish that we have enjoyed for so long.  And Ken, of course, had his oysters -- one of the major four food groups, he tells me.  But you will discover a great deal more!

The parking lot is tiny, but not to worry: the valet is right at hand.
