Adventure With Seaport Village Kites
Right next to the Convention Center hotels and downtown San Diego is a little park, the Embarcadero Park, sometimes called the San Diego Marina Park or Seaport Village Park.
And in this park are kites. Kite flying is, without question, one of the great fun things to do in San Diego.
These aren't just any old kites. They are colorful, glorious kites that catch hold of your spirit and make it soar. Wow. What a feeling.

And lest you think that all these glorious kites are being flown by children, take a closer look. Lots of them are being flown by us grown ups.
And that is the real romance of kites. It doesn't matter how old you are. Hold onto a string tugging at your fingers for a few minutes, and you are a kid again. This is definitely one of the fun things to do in San Diego.
It is no accident that these kites are flying at the marina in San Diego. Seaport Village is home to one of the premier kit shops in the country. In fact, there is a whole organization of kite flyers in San Diego. They meet every so often and just fly kites -- young folks and old, men and women, singles and not. Everyone just enjoys the soaring for a while.
I suppose if San Diego vacation packages had a ticket for "kite flying", it would be better known. But you can go most any time and capture a corner of the sky for your very own, just like other visitors from hotels near the Convention Center and downtown San Diego.
