The Simpson House Inn

We can understand why the Inn is the only 5-diamond rated bed and breakfast inn in California. Once you drive into the parking area, you feel like you are entering a beautiful inn right along the English countryside.   And it keeps getting better.

Gillian showed us to our cottage as we took in the beauty of the gardens along the way.

Our room was quiet and peaceful right off the well manicured English courtyard.

We were again close to wonderful restaurants and the beach, all within walking distance. We opted to take our tea in the gardens that afternoon, under a lovely arbor.  There we are ... feeling like youngsters again. A bit later was the incredible wine and cheese buffet presented by Simpson House Inn.  My goodness, were we ever impressed.

After the tea in the garden, and the wine and cheese buffet, we decided to skip dinner and take a stroll.

We took a walk around the grounds of the Simpson Inn after dusk, with all the lights sprinkled everywhere.  We spent a relaxing evening at the inn and loved our cozy and comfortable bed.

After a scrumptious breakfast, we took a look at all the options the inn suggested for seeing Santa Barbara, and there were lots.  We could have gone bicycling, or hiking, or surfing or travel the wine country.

We didn't want to drive, so we hopped on the trolley outside the door and got a wonderful tour of Santa Barbara, stopping off at the wharf and the Old California downtown area.

It was such a beautiful and sunny day. We enjoyed lunch on the patio of a small restaurant, caught some rays at the beach and just enjoyed a glorious day.  It is nice to know that there are so many other things to do, so I can recommend this to my daughter and her husband as well.

Back at the inn, we were amazed at another wine and cheese hour -- the chef at the inn is fantastic.  We thought we couldn't leave Santa Barbara without trying at least one of the restaurants recommended by Simpson House Inn, so we walked down the street to an utterly charming old Victorian house that has been converted into a small restaurant.  It was just what we hoped it would be -- delicious food and lovely ambiance.

Again, after another wonderful night, we enjoyed breakfast in the courtyard, read the paper and drove back to San Francisco along scenic Highway 1.

We decided to make this same trip on an annual basis. Because there are so many amenities (such as free WiFi, movies in the rooms, breakfast, wine and cheese hour, afternoon tea with English cookies, concierge service and free parking) with the our stay at both inns, we found the price very affordable over hotel stays we have had recently.

From the mountains to the sea, this was an affordable vacation right close to home with the luxury and pampering of a top-notch stay anywhere in the world!   There is indeed a lot to do in Santa Barbara, and we have only begun.  We were certainly delighted that CABBI recommended The Simpson House Inn to us.
