The Bunkhouse at Strawberry Creek is a unique, totally organic, option for Idyllwild lodging.  Laura and Jamie stayed at the Bunkhouse, the sister lodge of Strawberry Creek Inn.  In Laura's journal she talks about her adventures there. Following are excerpts from her journal.

(July 28)  What a beautiful area! I love the cedar, Jeffrey pines (smell like vanilla!), manzanita, and stunning views, all visible from my back balcony. ... We went into town for lunch and to do some exploring. Nature's Wisdom is a fantastic organic bistro where I had a delicious Balkan plate lunch with raspberry iced tea.   The town of Idyllwild is very cute with many shops and art galleries to peruse, as well as many great places to eat.  So far the Bunkhouse at Strawberry Creek has been full of surprises!

(July 29)  The Bunkhouse at Strawberry Creek provides an organic breakfast basket every morning, but those who want a hot breakfast can take advantage of the Hike-to-Breakfast offer where they can hike from the Bunkhouse to the Strawberry Creek Bed & Breakfast.  So Jamie and I walked to breakfast this morning.  It is a gorgeous walk, about 45 minutes.   Kathleen, a Bunkhouse employee who lives on site, invited us to accompany herself, Rodney, and two other other guests (Bruce and Kathy) to Cafe Aroma for dinner.  Last night when we were here, there was live jazz.  Tonight there was a belly dancer!

(July 30)  Today we decided it was time to do some hiking.  to ease into it, we chose an easy route, the Ernie Maxwell Scenic Trail.  This is a well shaded trail with not too much elevation change.  We saw hundreds of lizards, views of Tahquitz (Lily) Rock, a rattlesnake, and a Steller's Jay.  Feeling energized when we reached the end of the trail, we continued walking into town and arrived at the Gastrognome around noon, where we enjoyed lunch out on the patio.  I love walking back to the Bunkhouse at Strawberry Creek -- it is just so inviting, not like our condo at all.

(August 1)  We got an amazing picnic lunch from Strawberry Creek Inn this morning and drove up to Lake Fulmore, about 15 minutes north of Idyllwild.  This is a very small lake, known for its fishing and many picnic areas.  The trail around the lake is a leisurely 10 minute stroll.  That picnic lunch was really something -- It even had wine!  This is probably the most romantic day we have had here ... just the lake, sunshine and us.  Well, a little fishing at Idyllwild lake.

(August 2)  We went up to Strawberry Creek Inn for breakfast again.  I can certainly see why it is such a great Idyllwild lodging spot.  Just for breakfast I have enjoyed puffed German pancakes and chicken sausage, berry pancakes, and all kinds of egg dishes -- yummy -- with really fresh fruit and home made biscuits. At breakfast we talked with a couple who were on a motorcycle trip.  They had stayed at the Bunkhouse at Strawberry Creek the last time and really liked it -- parking for their motorcycles was right outside the door... We also headed out to see the famous Strawberry Creek.  It was a pretty little creek with wildflowers, and thimble berries.  I had forgotten just how nice it is to stroll through nature.

(August 3) It drops to 50 degrees at night here, which is perfect for snuggling up.  Now I know why people live in cold weather -- lol.

(August 4)  After breakfast at Strawberry Creek Inn this morning, Jamie and I took one last stroll through the forest.  It is just so peaceful.  I am not looking forward to going back to LA traffic.  I have a suspicion we will be back.   Very soon.
