Here are some of the highlights, beginning just above San Francisco.  Coming out of San Francisco, head north along Highway 1.  This road hugs the California coast all the way up, with one amazing view after another.

Point Reyes National Seashore Along the Northern California Coast

Nearly 150 miles of hiking trails lead you past herds of grazing elk and miles and miles of empty shoreline.  This is truly one of the most peaceful spots you will find for California vacations.

Do visit the Bear Valley Visitor's Center, pick up an area guide, and take a peek at the Miwok Indian Village nearby.  Like other California Indian tribes, the Miwok were a peaceful group, spending far more time creating beautiful baskets and jewelry than fighting.  California provided more than enough food and water for all its Indian inhabitants, so there was no need for warfare.  That sense of peace still sifts through the land.

And, yes, of course do stop by the gorgeous Point Reyes Lighthouse.  It has been a landmark for many years.

Mendocino - Little River, California Vacations

Go watch the migrating whales just off the Mendocino coast.  Bring a pair of binoculars for the best views.  Enjoy some of the extraordinary wines made in this region, and treasure the stark beauty of this area.
